STYLING FOR WINTER

STYLING FOR WINTER

A while back I collaborated with two beautiful and talented ladies – Ivy Hansen (Ivy Christina Photography) and Aurora Peterson (Aurora Grace Photography).  We met for a stylized shoot in North Loop Minneapolis.  These two never fail to amaze me with their talent and passion for photography.

PEOPLE :

I met Ivy through Instagram by chance. After creeping on this girl's feed I decided I had to meet her for coffee and contacted her. We met at Urban Bean during Fall 2015 and instantly connected. She has such a kind heard and a passion for capturing moments with her camera... So when she contacted me asking to collaborate I just had to say yes.

Ivy actually introduced me to Aurora the day of this shoot - I'm so glad she did because she was so fun to work with and I loved getting to know her during the shoot and over coffee. (Not to mention she's incredibly talented with a camera.) Despite the cold weather, both of these ladies made this collaboration into such a fun day!

STYLE :

For my favorite winter look I paired some essentials for Minnesota winters. My style is minimalist and neutral. I think minimal pieces can be used more, paired with more, and sometimes make a bigger statement.

You will always find me in my Hunter boots because I am not a happy person if I have cold or wet feet via snow. These boots are on their third winter and haven’t failed me yet – they still look brand new.  I like the matte, black, original style because they go with everything and they don’t crack like some of the shiny ones do.

I have a heavy wool shawl (or cape) from Soïa & Kyo which is very warm (given the fact that it was 20 degrees out during the shoot) and comfortable. What I love about it, is that I can wear it over anything like other shawls and big sweaters that sometimes won’t fit under other coats.

I paired it with a black and grey Burberry scarf.  I wear black and grey a lot so this always goes with my outfit.

Under all the winter gear, I paired a black turtleneck with a pair of black high waisted pants… because you can never go wrong with the color black. I found the pants at H&M and the turtlenecks that I have fallen in love with this winter are Worthington because they’re warm, fitted, and not itchy!).

BEAUTY :

Now can we talk about this makeup?! I was so excited because I got to try some new products and was astounded by how beautifully they photographed!

For foundation I used The Organic Face‘s Luminous Pressed Foundation in Ivory. I love my Bare Minerals foundation, but I ran into a little problem with the fact that they don’t make a foundation fair enough for my skin tone in the winter. I’m so happy with the way it wears and the coverage it gives.

I did a little contouring with the Marc Jacobs Light Filtering Contour Powder in 40 Mirage Filter. What is amazing about this palette is that it isn’t orange.  It’s a cool tone palette that looks amazing on fair skin.  The highlight color is a matte banana yellow which I have always loved because I’m not big on shiny highlighters.

For lipstick I always love a good red. I also love matte.  Most matte lipsticks are drying.  In fact, my lips were very dry and chapped from the cold during this shoot, but you can’t tell from the photographs because the matte lipstick I used was not a drying one. I used NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella.  It looked and felt amazing.

All other makeup was Bare Minerals.
